Collecting Evidence for a Potential Ban

Postby Fapsock » Fri Apr 19, 2013 6:21 pm

Someone doing something disruptive and/or against the server rules, but no admin is online? You can submit a ban, but we require evidence.

Getting SteamIDs
  1. Open the console by pressing ~
  2. Type status and press Enter
  3. Copy the status info and paste it into Notepad (or something similar)
  4. Pull the player's nickname and SteamID from the list

I've found that the easiest way to copy the status info from the console is to start from the lower right, click and drag to the upper left, and then CTRL + C.

Recording a Demo (video)
  1. Enter spectate mode and open the console by pressing ~
  2. Type playerinfo in chat, select the player from the list, and then choose the spectate option (easier than clicking over and over until you find the player in question)
  3. Type record <playername> to start recording
  4. Type stop to finish recording

You'll find the playername.dem file in your TF2 tf subdirectory (For example, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf).

Submitting a Ban
  1. Go to SourceBans, fill out the form with as much detail as you can, and be sure to attach any screenshots or demos.
  2. Create a new post using the player's nickname as the title in the Bans, griefers, hackers and cheaters sub-forum. Be sure to include the SteamID and a description of the rule violations in your post.

Submitting an Abuse Report to Valve
If you wish to report a player to Valve, press F7. For more information about abuse reports, please see the Filing an Abuse Report guide.

Would nun mind if he posts these instructions or at least the console commands in-game as one of those text reminders that show up?

I think we already have too many advertisements/automatic text chat messages and this info would be hard to convey via short text blurbs.

If it helps, I created a PDF of the instructions that you can print out.
